The potential impact of human visceral leishmaniasis vaccines on population incidence

New article was published by Prof. Paul Kaye with the title “The potential impact of human visceral leishmaniasis vaccines on population incidence” in PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases.

In the paper authors use existing mathematical models of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) transmission to understand how vaccines currently under development would impact the incidence of the disease in the population. By simulating in the model the introduction of these vaccine candidates, authors estimated that these can potentially have a substantive impact in decreasing VL incidence, thereby their development should be further pursued.

"Mathematical transmission models are useful tools to gain insight into the effect of current and future interventions on VL incidence and the underlying transmission dynamics."
